Lugol’s Iodine – 2 fl. oz.

Many people have no idea just how vital a mineral Iodine really is. Symptoms of iodine deficiency include muscle cramps, cold hands and feet, weight gain, poor memory, constipation, depression and headaches, edema, myalgia, weakness, dry skin, and brittle nails and either an under-active or overactive thyroid.

Sources include most sea foods, (ocean fish, but not fresh fish, shellfish, especially oysters), unrefined sea salt, kelp and other sea weeds, fish broth, butter, pineapple, artichokes, asparagus, dark green vegetables and eggs. Certain vegetables, such as cabbage and spinach, can block iodine absorption when eaten raw or not fermented and are called goitrogens. But eating fish won’t give you iodine in mg amounts. To get 13.8 mg iodine, you would have to eat 10-20 pounds of fish per day.

Our government realized the need for iodine and chose to replace it in baked goods with bromide, which is a toxic element that directly competes with iodine in the body causing a whole array of diseases. Someone thought it might be a solution to add iodine to the salt. The only problem is you cannot possibly get the amount your body needs for good health. It is also severely depleted in our soil. The other problem is the high amounts of chlorine and fluoride in our public water systems depleting our bodies of iodine even further.

So you see, we all need to supplement iodine in order to off-set this mess we face on a daily basis. You should know a little something about finding your proper dose and it’s a good idea to eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals.

Iodine is needed in microgram amounts for the thyroid, mg amounts for breast and other tissues, and can be used therapeutically in gram amounts. –Dr. David Miller
